As the maritime sector moves towards net zero, wind propulsion has returned to the spotlight as a key driver of change. By using the power of wind to cut fuel use and emissions, it plays an essential role in the industry’s decarbonisation journey. Our Wind Propulsion events bring together designers, engineers, and innovators who are rethinking how ships move - from wind-assisted systems to fully wind-powered vessels - showcasing practical solutions that are helping shape a cleaner, more sustainable future for shipping.
In a world of growing geopolitical uncertainty, warship design and resilience have become more critical than ever. Modern naval fleets face increasingly complex operational environments, demanding advances in survivability, adaptability, and technological integration. Our Warship conferences, held in both the UK and Australia, provide a vital forum for defence experts, naval architects, and engineers to share knowledge, present breakthroughs, and explore how innovation can keep fleets capable and ready for the future.

“As one of our main events, the RINA Warship Conference is a fantastic gathering of defence industry professionals, with naval architecture at the heart of the discussion and a showcase of ideas not just regionally but globally. Warship 2025 was a great experience, with thriving conversations around every element of the ship from keel to mast and stem to stern. Someone even thought outside the box and brought planes into our ship-shaped conversation.”

As the maritime industry accelerates its drive towards a sustainable future, the need for innovative alternative power and propulsion technologies is becoming increasingly urgent. Among these, wind-assisted propulsion is rapidly emerging as a practical, scalable solution. Drawing on one of the oldest principles in shipping, modern wind technologies are now taking centre stage in efforts to reduce emissions.
Since its inaugural edition in 2019, the Wind Propulsion Conference has established itself as a leading platform for industry stakeholders — from shipowners and classification societies to technology developers, researchers, and policy-makers — to connect and collaborate. The sector is gaining momentum, with 54 large vessels equipped with wind propulsion systems by the second half of 2024, another seven vessels built wind-ready, and over 80 new wind-powered ships expected by 2025/26. The global fleet is on track to surpass 100 installations by the end of 2025.
The Wind Propulsion 2026 Conference will provide critical updates on technology, design, policy, and performance. Attendees will gain valuable insights, engage with leaders across the field, and help shape the future of sustainable shipping.
